Midnight My Love [ 2005 ]

Midnight My Love
Director :
Khongdej Jaturanrassamee

Plot Outline: Bati is an old-fashioned, middle-aged taxi driver who is set in his ways: he only listens to old ballads on a medium-wave radio station as he drives his taxi through the streets of Bangkok, always has supper at a restaurant serving traditional home cooking, does not use a cell phone, and so on. He makes up for his loneliness by writing letters to the presenter of his favourite radio programme. One night a luxury prostitute gets into his car. For the first time, Bati could be the central character of one of those love stories he has so often heard on the radio. A romantic, urban and nocturnal film, with its touch of drama and its little bits of humour, Midnight, My Love pays tribute to the old love stories and classical films of this extremely popular genre in Thailand, as Tears of the Black Tiger (Wisit Sasanatieng, 2000) had already done in some way. Nevertheless, the movie does not forget to keep its feet on the ground and reflects the blows that life deals us. The lead is played by Mum Jokmok, the stage name of Petchtai Wongkamlao, one of the most popular comic actors in Thailand, who displays here extraordinary control of an entirely different register.
