Siam Renaissance, The [ 2004 ]

Plot Outline: An ancient document is uncovered during a stormy night in the outskirts of Paris. Brought in for further investigation at ‘Sorbonne University’ in Paris, it is discovered to be ‘Voyageur’, the forbidden record written by Francois Xavier, a French traveler and naturalist, in the mid 19th century.
Maneejan, a historian based at the Thai Consulate in Paris is called in as an expert on the history of Siam, which is where the document is thought to have been written. ‘Voyageur’ is evaluated as merely a ‘nonsensical novel’, but she thinks it is an interesting source of historical evidence. She finds herself transported into the land of secrecy portrayed in the document – a land she never really knew existed. Later, circumstances force her to return to Thailand.
Back in her homeland, Maneejan is unable to separate the realities she experiences. Is today tomorrow’s past, or is today yesterday’s future? Which realm should she choose to be in? She begins to believe that she was somehow connected to the writing of the document.
